Latifa Echakhch “The Concert — The Cycle of Life” Pavilion of Switzerland Venice Biennale Art Exhibition
Latifa Echakhch was born in 1974 in Morocco; she lives and works in Vevey in Switzerland.
Her work “The Concert — The Cycle of Life” is presented at the Swiss Pavilion at the Giardini.
Latifa Echakhch's wood sculptures represent different human body parts, heads, hands, and legs alone or crossed and seated.
Several meters large sculptures are made with wooden slats intertwined and stapled together to create the desired final shape.
But Latifa Echakhch's goal is not to simply represent heads or other body parts but to give them life and death at the same time.
His works refer to the fires of Saint-Jean at the summer or winter solstices and thus carry with it the end of winter, the birth of summer or vice versa.
In fact, Latifa Echakhch's sculptures are partly burnt or presented in intense red lights to highlight this symbolism of the Renaissance.
