Guadalupe Maravilla at the Corderia dell’Arsenal in Venice, 2026 Biennale
Guadalupe Maravilla was born in El Salvador and emigrated to the United States in 1980.
Guadalupe Maravilla His work encapsulates his perception of the traumas associated with colonialism and imperialism, traumas compounded by his own battle with cancer.
A cancer he regards as the physical manifestation of his stress.
“Bearers of Illness” is the name he has given to the sculptures he is exhibiting in the Corderia of the Arsenal in Venice.
Sculptures which, in his view, should be regarded as sanctuaries as well as instruments of healing.
Beautiful sculptures that appear as great magical thrones where healing can occur simply by sitting upon them.
