In this work, entitled “First Living Woman”, exhibited at the 2026 Venice Art Biennale, each photograph has been printed, repeated and assembled to create a continuous sequence of images.

To create the desired effect of repetition, Carrie Schneider then curved each of these images to highlight their most significant parts.

In “First Living Woman”, the hundreds of eyes of the actress Helen Chatelain, taken from Chris Marker’s film “La Jetée”, follow us as we move in front of this work.

A film from which Carrie Schneider extracted just eight seconds to create this one-kilometre-long cinematic sculpture-painting.
