Manuel Mathieu, Central Pavilion of the Giardini, Venice Biennale 2026
Manuel Mathieu is an artist from Haiti and his art is steeped in his local culture.His work is dark, tormented, but above all powerful and beautiful.
His mosaic depicts a head crowned with a halo of hair, whilst emphasising the presence of the skull’s vault.
The following painting is a portrait that distorts and disintegrates along coloured lines that foreshadow its collapse and dissolution.
