Édouard Duval-Carrié is an artist who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but who was forced to leave his country following the military coup in 1991.He now lives in Miami in the United States.

Edouard Duval-Carrié He is influenced by the Iwas cosmological and cultural tradition, which stems from the Voodoo religion.
His paintings and sculptures are a powerful representation of this.
Through the works he is exhibiting at the 2026 Venice Biennale, Édouard Duval-Carrié shows that the Iwas spirit remains deeply rooted in the hearts and minds of the island’s inhabitants, despite the tragic circumstances that have marked and continue to mark Haiti’s history.
A large blue Plexiglas totem stands at the centre of his exhibition, a blue that contrasts with the green tones of his paintings and the browns of his bronze sculptures.
His paintings, full of colour and life, depict the migration and power of spirits in Voodoo rituals, the enslavement of Haitians, the military presence and the forced exodus.
Édouard Duval-Carrié’s sculptures are an expression of Voodoo culture, with busts that reveal the inner power of the figures.
