Canada “Not for Sale!” Venice International Architecture Biennale
The AAHA, the Architects Against Housing Alienation Association, brings together architects who want to challenge the current housing system in Canada.
Canada, Not for Sale! A system that, according to them, is characterised by the lack of affordable housing, good conditions and the correct size.
According to them, this process began with the arrival of European colonists in Canada, who dispossessed Canadian Indigenous peoples of their lands but also destroyed these peoples' know-how in housing construction and design.
For the AAHA association, houses are now only designed to be exchangeable goods according to the rules of real estate speculation.
This solely profit-oriented housing construction involves exploiting labour and using construction practices and resource extraction that are unsustainable and degrade the environment.
