Australia, Unsettling Queenstown Venice International Architecture Biennale

Australia, Unsettling Queenstown, Venice International Architecture Biennale
Australia, Unsettling Queenstown
Australia was built by appropriating the land of its original inhabitants and uprooting them from their ancestral lands.

Australia's wealth has been built mainly on the exploitation of nature.

Queenstown represented here is both accurate and imaginary.

A Queenstown shows the plunder carried out by colonialism, especially the extraction of copper on the island of Lutruwita, Tasmania.

To symbolise this fact, at the centre of the exhibition is an arch of suspended copper tubes that refers to the Town's Empire Hotel.

This copper structure is accompanied by sounds, voices, and images projected onto the back wall.
