Croatia “Same As It Ever Was” Venice International Architecture Biennale

Croatia, Same As It Ever Was, Venice International Architecture Biennale
Croatia
The theme of the Croatian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale is the coexistence between nature and the manufactured, between the wild and the tame.

A large sculpture reminiscent of a large cornucopia or even a traditional musical instrument is in the centre of the room.

It is made of ash slats from wetlands like the Lonja region.

Wetlands are considered starting points for speculating on future paths, alternatives and preferable models of cohabitation, as pointed out by the curators of the lodge.

According to them:

“Wetlands testify to nature's ability to heal without our intervention or survival.

The future begins with a thorough understanding of the balances of the systems we are a part of and their fragility.

Acting to preserve symbioses between nature and culture requires an understanding of what a harmonious environment is, and this reflects an interdependence that is still present but threatened.”

Mia Roth, Tonči Čerina - Curators of the Croatian Pavilion
