Antonia Minor
Born in Athens, she had married the consul general Nero Claudius Drusus, the brother of Emperor Tiberius.

She was known as ‘the Younger’ to distinguish her from her sister Antonia the Elder.

Antonia Minor was the mother of Emperor Claudius, the paternal grandmother of Emperor Caligula; and the maternal great-grandmother of Emperor Nero.

She was revered for her virtue and her beauty; this is why many Roman statues depicted her in the guise of Venus.

In addition to her considerable personal fortune derived from her own inheritance, her beauty and her circle of friends also helped her to become one of the most influential Roman women of her time.

This statue depicts her as a mature Venus.
