The goddesses, including Aphrodite, Artemis, Athena, Hecate and Demeter, are in the spotlight at the Archaeological Museum in Venice.

Among these feminine beauties, the place of honour is reserved for Aphrodite, the goddess of love, who is represented here by four sculptures.

The Romans Latinised the Greek goddess Aphrodite, naming her Venus;; whilst not adhering to the myth, Renaissance art continued to pay homage to the beauty of Aphrodite-Venus as a symbol of Western feminine beauty.

The “Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli, so admired for its beauty and delicacy, is one of the finest examples of this.
