The works of Paolo Veronese are on display at the Accademia Galleries in Venice.
Mystical Marriage The most remarkable work is undoubtedly his “Banquet in the House of Levi”, which he had originally painted on the theme of the Last Supper but was forced to rename in order to escape the wrath of the Inquisition, which had taken offence at his depiction of that subject.
Veronese’s full talent is also on display at the Accademia in Venice through his “Mystical Wedding of Saint Catherine of Alexandria”, with its vibrant colours and powerful composition, or in his “Battle of Lepanto” at the Accademia in Venice.
His “Crucifixion” is also particularly powerful and stands in stark contrast to how other artists of the time treated this subject.
Finally, his works “The Coronation of the Virgin” and “The Assumption of the Virgin” are quite simply splendid.
