He began by studying law and economics at Moscow University.

He graduated in 1892 and married his cousin, Ania Tchimiakin, from whom he divorced in 1911.

He had a passion for colour and drawing, but he was already 30 years old in 1896 when he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

In 1910 he wrote, "The Spiritual in Art and Painting in specific".

A first book devoted to art where he begins his introduction as follows:

“Every work of art is the child of his time and often the mother of our feelings.

Thus, each cultural era is born an art that is its own and cannot be repeated.

Attempting to revive ancient art principles can only lead to the production of stillborn works.”

In 1929 he went to Belgium, where he met James Ensor and Marcel Duchamp.

In 1933, the Nazis closed the Bauhaus, and Kandinsky left Germany for France and settled in Neuilly, where he remained until his death.
