Beware: Stamps and Postcards

Two Types of Stamps and Postal Delivery Systems

Stamps sold in tobacconists are special stamps that can only be used with the Tobacconists’ Delivery System. These stamps are completely different from the Official Italian Post Office stamps, “Poste Italiane”. These tobacconist’s special stamps are therefore not accepted by the “Poste Italiane”.

Postcards’ Destruction

If you post your postcards stamped with tobacconists stamps in the “Poste Italiane” postboxes, not only the Official Italian Post Office service will not deliver your postcards but will also destroy them. No sender name, no good stamps, what else can they do?

Tobacconists’ Postboxes

This means that when you buy your stamps to a tobacconist, you must post your postcards in the tobacconist’s postbox and never in the Italian Post Office’s postboxes. Each tobacconist has, generally inside the shop, a special tobacconists’ postbox in which you must post your postcards.

Sending your Postcards with the Italian Post Office

If you want to send your postcards with the Italian Post Office, you need to buy at the post office, “Poste Italiane” stamps and then post them in the Poste Italiane’s postboxes.
