Editrice Filippi bookshop

It is one of our bookshops preferred in Venice and on top of that often a purveyor of unique books.

It is nestled on one of the oldest streets of Venice, the Calle del Paradisio, dating from the 13th century and wonderfully preserved.

All books, including the rarest and those that certain envious curators, and even incompetent, will tell you be out of stock and untraceable, are in general here. And if they do not have them, Mr. or Mrs. Filippi will make all their efforts to find them for you at other curators and boutiques.

Bertoni bookshop

One of the earliest booksellers in Venice, and also, as a result, one of the most competent bookshops for all that touches its culture in Venice.

The other feature of this bookshop is they offer many splendid art books sold at a 50% discount, what is not of course without interest.

The most part of the books are in Italian but they do stock some books in English.

You will find Bertoni at two different addresses in Venice. That of Rio terá dei Assassini has our priority with its atmosphere of nice, antique bookshop and especially advice notified of Alberto and of his collaborators, who besides, speaks English very well.

Marco Polo bookshop

It is as the name indicates, a bookshop for the voyagers. Walls are covered with guides on Venice but also for travel in all other cities and countries.

Ambience is the nicest there and advice is also helpful. Some books of literature but primarily works which touch upon the voyage. An excellent selection of Venetian cookbooks which is also important!

The Marco Polo bookshop is located at two different addresses in Venice. That of the Salizada San Lio that is purely devoted to travel, that of the Calle del Teatro Malibran has feature to offer books of opportunity almost exclusively with a choice mattering from books in English. You will be warmly welcomed there by Claudio Moretti, a Venetian enthralled by his nice city and which speaks well enough English.

Mare di Carta

It is a small cozy boutique and nestled at the top of the sestiere of Santa Croce, where the air of the open sea will take you as soon as you will cross the door.

You will find here all that is made, tells itself, sings and saw itself on the sea. Christina Giussani, caption on board this boat in books and who knows of more perfectly the English language, is also an erudite person on history and life of the lagoon of Venice.

Oh yes, if case you forgot, Venice is right in the center of a lagoon, without the protection and the characteristics of which it would never have existed. In this bookshop which is also a quality publishing company, you will find numerous books which will explain how the wonderful heart beats in the lagoon of Venice as well as life and the history of its numerous islands.

And if you want to learn more on all the boats which go up and down waters of Venice, including on its “royal fish” gondola, numerous and nice books wait for you here, many of which are in English.

If you are a boater, you will find naturally also find at Mare di Carta all the maritime maps of the region and beyond. And for the others, you will be able to buy quality maps here to browse with your feet in the calli of Venice.

The Acqua Alta bookshop in Venice

This bookshop is particularly rich in fact in works devoted in Venice. You will find more than numerous books in English, including for the children there.

Ambience is there good-natured and Acqua Alta is treated here with a lot of humor. Rare thing for a bookshop, if you have a boat, you can enter the bookshop from the rio!

Luigi Frizzo, the manager, who speaks English very well, is a colorful and friendly Venetian who is worth the detour in very himself as its "erotic" range of which he is proud enough.

They are definitely there, they feel there well and they want to go back to it nothing for ambience. You will find so here, at very soft prices, of reproductions and the engravings of Venice.

Finally, Luigi Frizzo rents some nice rooms in Bed and Breakfast in his own flat on the other side of the calle.

Studium bookshop

It is as a very nice bookshop, located very close to basilica Saint Mark, along the Rio de Palazzo of Canonica, which spans Bridge of Sighs.

The range of books in English devoted to Venice is very complete including as regards the works of art and literature devoted in Venice.

To note: there is a range of books for children in English on Venice. These books for children come mostly in form of comic strips. For instance, we pointed out a comic strip on Casanova and his escape from the prison of lead. Our dear children will therefore be enraptured to find this type of books here being teeming with intrigues and legends.

Toletta

Very few books in English in this university bookshop but which gives a very complete choice of books on architecture, art (including contemporary art) literature or else philosophy.

You will also find at Toletta a very good range of dictionaries of which, of course, from the smallest to the biggest, practically all range of dictionaries Italian-English. An invaluable “tool” here!

This bookshop sells new books principally but they are often sold with discounts going from 10% to 50%. A very good address in Venice if you read Italian.
