Murano glass, Venetian jewellery, Venetian stained glass

The tradition of Murano glass is one of Venice's finest artistic legacies and what's more, still alive.

However, Venetian artists and craftsmen are now facing competition from industrial products made in low-cost countries...

Beware of "Verre de Murano" labels, especially where Murano glass is concerned.

This is often, and only, "glass material" produced in Murano and purchased from abroad.

This raw "Murano glass" is then industrially processed in countries where labour is cheapest and sold on in Venice and Murano with the "Murano Glass" label.

A play on words that allows us to sell products that have nothing to do with the quality of those made by our local craftsmen and artists.

Many artisans (list in the menu on the left), who can often be described as artists, still work lovingly and with great expertise with glass to offer us unique and magnificent objects.

In Venice and Murano you can acquire some magnificent pieces in this way.

Murano glass is also used in jewellery, in coloured glass beads that can be found in necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

And don't miss the shop-workshop of Marina and Marco Franzato, Venetian Master Glassmakers, one of the very last to still know how to make stained glass in Venice.
