Anthony Hernandez was born in 1947 in the United States lives and works in Los Angeles and Idaho.

His works at the Venice Art Biennale are exhibited in the Corderie of the Arsenal and at the Giardini.

His series of photos, “Pictures for Rome” is exhibited at the Arsenal.

For twenty years, Hernandez photographed the contemporary ruins of several cities and ancient Roman ruins.

Its aim is to show the damage linked to urban restructuring, unfinished projects, abandoned urban areas deserted by their inhabitants.

Its interior views show the signs of time, and as for its exterior views, abandoned unfinished works.

A “corrosion” of things that is not due to time, but to the failures of urbanization, to the financial markets with the bankruptcies that they entail.

The works of Anthony Hernandez exhibited in the central pavilion of the Giardini at the Biennale show a completely different aesthetic approach.

His “Screened Pictures” series consists of photos taken through perforated metal grids at bus stops in Los Angeles.
