If you are going to visit the Scuola Grande San Rocco in the sestiere of San Polo, or else if you are near the church of Frari, the nicest café-bar (and quite clean) that we know in this quarter is Al Timon.
Inside is done up in a nautical style, with blue seats, compasses and elements of brass deck fittings in abundance.
Prices are reasonable and for a small snack like a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, Al Timon is perfect.
Besides, the owner, Daniele, is the nicest!

We grant you, the “Official” name of this café-bar is not very attractive sounding.
However it is a very nice and lively place, winter as well as summer.
The place is frequented as well by the corner gondoliers as well as students.
Inside is nice, plenty cozy, while outside, it is good sit down, when time allows it, on the terrace which occupies a good part of the little campiello San Tomà.
If you pass thereabouts, it is a good place to rest your legs and drink a good coffee!
